The Italian Anti-Vivisection League
(LEAL) on Tuesday expressed indignation at a video in which
Donald John Trump Jr is allegedly shown to have killed protected
species of duck while hunting in the Venice lagoon, saying the
US president's son was guilty of an "act of poaching".
The online video shows Trump Jr shooting at ducks and then
addressing the camera and pointing to an orange-brown duck among
at least six other dead waterfowl around him.
The dead waterfowl included a ruddy shelduck, which is protected
by the EU Birds Directive and Italian wildlife protection
legislation.
"This act is not only a violation of the law, it is also an
affront to ecological sensitivity and the conservation of
biodiversity," said LEAL President Gian Marco Prampolini.
"Hunting is prohibited for non-residents in Italy and so we
wonder how this hunting trip was organized and who was its
organizer.
"LEAL is preparing a complaint to be filed to the Prosecutor's
Office to denounce Trump Jr's illegal, irresponsible behaviour".
