A police officer who on Monday shot a
man in Crotone after they got into a fight after a car chase
before the officer was almost lynched by the victim's relatives
has been placed under investigation on suspicion of murder,
judicial sources said Tuesday.
The deputy inspector, Giuseppe Sortino, who was in civvies at
the time of the incident, is suspected of murdering 44-year-old
Francesco Chimirri after witnessing a car crash caused by the
latter.
The victim's son tried to shoot the officer while other
relatives kicked and punched him and he was taken to hospital.
