The upcoming G7 Culture summit will
include events in Pompeii, the city's Mayor Carmine Lo Sapio
told ANSA on Thursday, saying he was "very satisfied".
Unless adverse weather conditions impose a change of plans, the
G7 delegations will visit excavations at Pompeii on September
20, where a concert of the Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti will also
be held, and they will attend a dinner at the Palestra Grande
(Large Gymnasium).
A concert with Andrea Bocelli still needs to be confirmed.
The mayor was briefed on Thursday morning about the security
measures organized for the events by the prefecture, which will
also involve the commissioner for public security and municipal
police, among others.
Plans to hold events at Pompeii were questioned after an alleged
advisor to former culture minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, who did
not have security clearance, said she was involved in email
exchanges containing reserved information about the organization
of the G7 Culture meeting.
Sangiuliano last Friday resigned over the scandal involving
Maria Rosaria Boccia, the disputed advisor for major events
including the G7 culture summit.
