The rightwing government League party
has filed a bill to make the iconic Vespa scooter a part of
Italy's official cultural heritage.
The scooter, patented by Piaggio in 1946, is already on show in
many museums around the world ranging from Milan's Triennale
Design Museum to New York's MoMa.
The scooter famously ridden by Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn
in Roman Holiday is still going strong and the Italian company
has sold over 1.6 million units in the last 10 years including
new electric versions.
