Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani on Tuesday said "our officials have promptly
carried out inspections in local precincts where Italian
citizens are detained" in Venezuela.
"The authorization to carry out consular visits has already been
requested to determine their conditions of health and detention
as well as the safeguard of their right of defense".
Tajani told an audition of the foreign commissions of the Lower
House and Senate that "our embassy in Caracas, consulates and
Crisis Unit are working around the clock" in order to "provide
assistance to the over 160,000 compatriots" residing in
Venezuela.
