An estimated 3,000 Italian civilians
are currently in Lebanon, in addition to the over 1,000 members
of the military deployed with UNIFIL while approximately 200
others are in Beirut as part of the Italian Bilateral Military
Mission in Lebanon (MIBIL).
Given the worsening situation, Deputy Premier and Foreign
Minister Antonio Tajani on Sunday urged "Italians temporarily
residing in Lebanon to return to Italy with commercial flights
as soon as possible".
Evacuation plans have been updated over the past few days by the
foreign and defence ministries in case of a generalized crisis,
according to well-informed sources.
Over the past few weeks, the number of Italian civilians in the
country has decreased.
