Hellas Verona and Cagliari both
secured important victories to boost their hopes of remaining in
Serie A with 1-0 wins over relegation-battle-rivals Sassuolo and
Empoli respectively.
Verona triumphed at home thanks to a goal in the 79th minute by
Polish forward Karol Swiderski, while Cagliari prevailed in
Tuscany with a 69th minute effort by winger Jakub Jankto.
The Sardinian side remain in the relegation zone in 18th place
with 23 points from 27 games.
They are level on points with 17th-placed Verona.
Sassuolo, who put Davide Ballardini in charge on Friday after
sacking Alessio Dionisi last week and losing 6-1 to Napoli on
Wednesday with academy coach Emiliano Bigica on the bench, are
second bottom with 20 points.
Empoli have just two points more than Hellas and Cagliari in
14th place after Sunday's defeat.
Frosinone drew 1-1 at home with Lecce in another important match
for the relegation tussle.
The result leaves 16th-place Frosinone one point above the
relegation zone in 16th while Lecce are just one point ahead of
them in 13th.
