Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Wednesday saluted former longtime European Commission chief Jacques Delors who has died at 98 after crafting ever closer EU integration and laying the groundwork for the euro.
"With the passing of Jacques Delors we have lost a personality who marked, on the basis of Christian values, the process of strengthening of Europe," said the leader of the centre right post Berlusconi Forza Italia party.
"My most heartfelt condolences to his family.
"We will take forward his ideas for a stronger and more united Europe".
