Pope Francis said in a message to the
COP28 UN climate change summit in Dubai Saturday that humanity
must stop its delusions of omnipotence in order to address the
climate crisis properly.
The pope, who was prevented from attending the conference by a
bout of acute bronchitis, said that "the devastation of creation
is an offence against God, a sin that is not only personal but
structural and that spills over onto the human being."
The Argentine pontiff added that we need to stop our "delirium
of omnipotence" in order to "recognise with humility and courage
our limitation as the only way to live in fullness".
