(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 20 - A construction worker died on Monday after being crushed by a piece of equipment at a building site in central Rome.
The victim, who has not yet been named, is a 60-year-old Italian man who was married and had children.
Preliminary investigations suggest that he was crushed against a wall by a swinging auger as it was being lowered by a crane.
Emergency services that arrived on the scene in Via Ludovisi were unable to resuscitate him.
The accident is just the latest in a long string of work-related deaths and accidents in Italy, although data suggest that the numbers are coming down.
In the first nine months of the year, the reports of accidents at work submitted to workplace accident insurance agency INAIL were 430.829 (-19.6% compared to September 2022), 761 of which with a fatal outcome (-3.7%), the agency reported last month. (ANSA).
