(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 17 - Deputy Premier and Transport and
Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini insisted on Sunday that
he was on the same page as his alliance partner Premier Giorgia
Meloni regarding migrants.
There has been talk of him trying to take advantage of the
emergency regarding migrant-boat landings in Lampedusa to win
back some of the support among voters that has been transferred
in recent years from his League party to Meloni's right-wing
Brothers of Italy (FdI) group.
On Sunday Meloni visited the island of Lampedusa, which has been
inundated with migrant arrivals, with European Commission
President Ursula von der Leyen, while he took part in the
League's rally at Pontida with Marine Le Pen the guest of
honour.
"Today Giorgia in Lampedusa and me here are the synthesis of the
same goal and of a joint destiny," Salvini said at Pontida.
"They won't succeed in dividing us.
"We have different cultures and different senses of party
commitment, but the centre right wins when it is united".
