(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 20 - St Mark's Basilica in Venice is to
get a 3.3 million euro facelift, officials said Tuesday.
The restoration project, which will concern interiors as well as
the facade of the iconic building, is set to start in the coming
days, said the First Procurator of St Mark's, Carlo Alberto
Tesserin.
Seven restoration firms were shortlisted out of 27 that put in
bids for the tender, he said.
The final choice fell on Rti Lares Lavori di Restauro of Venice,
which said it will take two years and four months to complete
its project.
Much of the work will be on the atrium and flooring which were
damaged by recent high tides. (ANSA).
