Pope Francis has reiterated his
position that the Catholic Church should not be hostile to gays
and argued that laws in many countries criminalizing
homosexuality are "unjust" in an interview with the Associated
Press (AP).
"Being homosexual isn't a crime," he said.
He added that some Catholic bishops who support laws
criminalizing or discriminating against LGBTQ people were wrong,
saying that they should "have a process of conversion" and apply
the "tenderness" that "God has for each one of us".
