Some 82 women have been killed in the
first nine months of this year, 42 by partners or exes, Italian
police said on International Day for the Elimination of Violence
Against Women on Tuesday.
Over half of them, 42, were murdered by their current or former
partners, said the third inter-force report, title Prejudice And
Violence Against Women.
The total was 9% down on last year's 90.
Cases of sexual violence were 9% up at 4,416, with women
accounting for 92% of the victims, the report said.
Italian police chief Lamberto Giannini said officers should be
"more welcoming" to women who report violence.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi vowed to boost norms against
violence against women.
