Brothers of Italy (FdI) leader
Giorgio Meloni warned the European Union that the "gravy train
is over" as she campaigned for the September 25 general election
at the weekend and said that Italy was set to "defend its
national interests".
Meloni is tipped to become Italy's first woman premier after the
election as FdI is the top party in the opinion polls and the
centre-right coalition that it is part of holds a massive lead
over the centre left, according to surveys.
The leader of the right-wing group said she was ready to "break
the glass ceiling" and become the nation's first woman head of
government.
