(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 26 - Italian researchers have mapped the DNA of a Pompeii resident for the first time, paving the way for a genetic map of the population of the Roman city buried and preserved by Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The subject was 35 when the inferno engulfed him and was suffering from illness, the research said.
"His genetic material was preserved by the lava," they said.
