Democratic Party (PD) leader Enrico
Letta on Wednesday criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr
Zelensky's decision to consider German President Frank-Walter
Steinmeier unwelcome in Kyiv, forcing him to pull out of a
planned visit with the heads of state of Poland and the three
Baltic states.
Steinmeier is seen as a symbol of the soft stance Berlin had
with respect to Moscow before the invasion of Ukraine.
"The president of a European Union country cannot be considered
persona non grata by a country that is a candidate to enter the
European Union," Letta said via Twitter.
