Olympics: Rossi, Viviani lead Italy team at opening ceremony

First time Italy has double flag bearers

(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 23 - Cyclist Elia Viviani and shooter Jessica Rossi led the Italian team into the stadium for the opening ceremony of the 2020 Olympics on Friday.
    It is the first time Italy has had double flag-bearers at the Olympics.

Rossi said "the joy just lasts a moment, but it is immense" while Viviani said "I had goose bumps, I flew high as an Italian".

Nigerian-Italian volleyball player Paola Egonu was then among six athletes to carry the Olympic flag into the stadium after Emperor Naruhito declared the Games open.
