Environment Minister Sergio
Costa has joined his counterparts from Denmark, Finland, France,
Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain and
Sweden in writing a letter to the European Commission calling on
the EU to commit itself to achieving zero net greenhouse-gas
emissions by 2050.
The letter also calls for a revision of the short- and
medium-term targets, with a cut in emissions of at least 40% by
2030.
The aim is to push Brussels towards more ambitious targets in
its long-term strategy.
