Italian populist leaders Luigi Di
Maio and Matteo Salvini are "children of inequality" but that
"does not justify their excesses", European Economic Affairs
Commissioner Pierre Moscovici told Le Monde Thursday.
"You get the feeling that it's always the same ones who win,
those in the north, and the ones in the south lose," he said.
"In the eurozone you have to rebuild convergence, we need an
instrument of economic policy that is dynamic and
redistributive".
Moscovici added that Europe's existence was threatened for
the first time in its history.
"It can implode or be subverted by far right leaders like
Matteo Salvini, Marine Le Pen and Viktor Orban".
