Japanese beer producer Asahi
has offered 400 billion euros (just over three billion euros) to
buy Italian brand Peroni and Dutch brand Grolsch from SABMiller,
the Nikkei business daily reported on Wednesday.
Peroni and Grolsch are being sold as part of an asset sale
arrangement planned by Anheuser-Busch InBev, which is taking
over SABMiller, to ease regulatory authority concerns about the
merger.
If the deal goes through, it will be the biggest-ever
foreign acquisition by a Japanese beer producer.
"Addition of two European brands with a long history in
the region would allow the company to broaden its overseas
strategy, and provide new sales channels to market its signature
Super Dry beer," Nikkei reported.
