(see related stories on OECD, Mattarella) Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan said the upswing in Italy's economic performance is fueled by the government's reforms, rather than a temporary effect of the European Central Bank's quantitative easing programme. "Our progress is not a flash in the pan lit by the ECB, but the result of our commitment to reforms," Padoan told Die Welt. Padoan added in the interview published with the German daily that Berlin should take action to "reduce its excessive trade surplus".
