EU will 'discuss' IMU cut - Dombrovksis (2)

EC normally recommends different direction

(ANSA) - Brussels, October 15 - European Commissioner for the EU Valdis Dombrovskis said Thursday the EC will have to "discuss" the Italian government's plan to cut property taxes IMU and TASI as part of the 2016 budget because it does not go in the usually recommended direction.
"Normally the Commission advises States to shift the weight of taxation from labour to consumption, property and capital," he said. "The action undertaken by the Italian government does not go in this direction, and so we will have to discuss with them the reasons and the potential implications," said Dombrovksis, who is also an EC vice president.
The 2016 budget, to be launched by cabinet Thursday, must be put to the EC before it is approved by the Italian parliament by year's end.
Premier Matteo Renzi has repeatedly said Italian fiscal policy is set in Rome and not Brussels.
