Most firms in Italy's retail,
service and tourism sector are "on their knees," Confesercenti
retailers' association president Massimo Vivoli said Monday.
However Vivoli told an annual meeting that "we can and
must help them to get up again, just as we want to contribute to
changing our country for the better".
Vivoli said scrapping fiscal receipts for purchases in
stores and a ceiling on the use of cash in transactions were
"contradictory" measures in the battle against tax evasion.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella in a telegram to the
meeting said "it appears urgent to free resources so as to
invest in innovation, education and training to offer new job
opportunities especially to young people".
