Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, head
of the Italian bishops' conference (CEI) and archbishop of
Genoa, said Tuesday he is "amazed" at the furore sparked by
Dolce and Gabbana's defence of heterosexual families.
"I am amazed by this fact (because) there is constant talk
of freedom of expression," said Bagnasco of the outcry that
followed when openly gay fashion designer Domenico Dolce upheld
heterosexual family values and criticised in vitro fertilization
and surrogate motherhood, both techniques sometimes used by gay
couples who want children.
