Germany 'very impressed' by Italian reforms, Gauck tells Mattarella in Berlin

First visit abroad by Italian president

(ANSA) - Germany, March 2 - "We are very impressed by the speed of the Italian government's reforms," German President Joachim Gauck told visiting President Sergio Mattarella Monday. Mattarella thanked Gauck for praising the speed of Premier Matteo Renzi's "major" reforms.
Many of the reforms, including key changes to the labour market, are modelled on those that helped lift the German economy. It was the first visit abroad by Mattarella, who was elected last month to succeed Giorgio Napolitano. He will see Chancellor Angela Merkel later Monday.
