Italy risks EU infraction process over Unblock Italy

Some 17 projects approved worth 1.7 bn euros

(ANSA) - Rome, October 20 - Italy could be slapped with an infraction procedure by the European Union over highway construction plans contained in its 'Unblock Italy' infrastructure program. Last Friday, Brussels initiated its investigations by asking Italy for information before it rules on whether to began infraction proceedings. In recent days, Transport Minister Maurizio Lupi approved 17 projects worth a total of 1.7 billion euros including numerous transportation improvements as the first tranche of Unblock Italy.
