Regional councillors suggest Italian-only prayer in mosques

Forza Italia councillors say it could control Islamic extremism

(ANSA) - Bologna, August 27 - Two regional councillors in Emilia-Romagna on Wednesday suggested that Italian should be the mandatory language for prayer and speech in mosques and other places where practicing Muslims congregate.
Councillors Gian Guido Bazzoni and Luigi Giuseppe Villani of Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italian (FI) party told the regional council that initiatives such as making Italian mandatory in mosques could "help prevent and control the phenomenon of Islamic extremism in the region".
The councillors made reference to the Ministry of Interior's recent call to increase investigations into Islamic fanaticism.
