Boxing Day

Boxing Day has its origins in the custom of giving gifts to members of the poorer classes. In particular, during the nineteenth century, it was tradition among the British landowners and industrialists to give their peasants and workers a few boxes with the leftovers of food consumed during the Christmas day. Others associate the name of the festivity to the box that in the past was placed in front of the Churches during Christmas holidays to collect offers for the poor.

Unfortunately, Boxing Day, with the advent of the twentieth century and large retailers, has become the opposite of what it was originally and today we no longer dedicate ouselves to charity but rather to unbridled shopping!
