(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, FEBRUARY 14 - Two flights carrying a total
of 440 British tourists landed at Enfidha-Hammamet international
airport on Tuesday in a landmark return to Tunisia by the
veteran tour operator Thomas Cook after an absence of three
years.
The company suspended its services in the north African country following the terrorist attack in Sousse-El Kantaoui in June 2015 in which 30 British holidaymakers died. The group of tourists were met by Nabeul governor Saloua Khiari in a festive atmosphere. The return of Thomas Cook, which is operating three weekly flights to Enfidha-Hammamet, marks a significant moment for Tunisian tourism as January figures show considerable improvement with respect to the same month last year.
Following a meeting with Britain's minister for security Ben Wallace, Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui said British tour operators would include Tunisia among their main summer holiday destinations in light of clear improvements in the security situation in the country. (ANSAmed).
