(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, MARCH 12 - On March 14, 2021, between 10 PM and midnight, Matteo Miceli and Mario Girelli will weigh anchor with their ECO 40 from the Italian island of Ventotene to challenge the Wally Speed Record Ventotene-Carthage, set in 2009 by Andrea Muro with his Vento di Sardegna in 31h40'20", over a distance of 277 nautical miles to Tunisia.
The attempt at breaking the record is an event inserted into the Carthago Dilecta Est , a race organized since 1999 by the Circolo Velico Ventotene.
The two Italians Miceli e Girelli, sailing for ScireMundi Yacht Charter, will be trying to beat the record but also bolster the idea of free sailing and longstanding cooperation between the Italian and Tunisian worlds of sailing, connecting the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean.
Through the structural characteristics of the ECO 40 boat, the two sailors will be supporting environmental sustainability and full energy self-sufficiency.
The ECO 40 is the only Class 40 vessel that is entirely environmentally sustainable, with a round the world trip without the use of any fossil fuels to its name. Now it will be the protagonist for a challenge that is unique and runs between two places that are symbols of Mediterranean history and culture, from the European island of Ventotene to Tunisia's historic city of Carthage.
