The statement said Macron showed himself to be "arrogant once again with his old colonial reflections" in his statements on Turkey, and "he feeds tensions and puts the interests of the EU at risk with his personalistic and nationalist attitude".
"Macron's statements were in reality a manifestation of his incapacity and desperation," the statement said, claiming to have foiled "all the insidious plans of foreign policy" and "Macron's dirty games" in the Mediterranean.
"It's not Macron's job to determine the maritime sovereignty of a country in the Mediterranean or any other geographic area," it said, accusing Elysee Palace of having taken the EU "hostage".
Before the MED7 Summit on Thursday, Macron said Europe "must have a more united and clearer voice" regarding the behavior of the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the Eastern Mediterranean, where he is conducting controversial energy exploration considered illegal by Greece and Cyprus, as well as by Brussels.
