(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, DECEMBER 18 - The Cairo Court of Assizes
on Tuesday ordered the release of Amal Fathy, an Egyptian
activist and wife of an NGO director assisting Giulio Regeni's
family in ongoing investigations into the Italian researcher's
death.
Fathy is the wife of Mohamed Lotfy, director of the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms (ECRF).
The case is being followed closely by Italy. Amal had been in preventative detention since May with accusations not connected with the Regeni case.
She had been charged with ''belonging to a terrorist group'' and ''publishing false information'' with a video on Facebook.
