NEW YORK - The pressure on the media in Egypt is worse than it was under former dictator Hosni Mubarak, Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression David Kaye said in a press conference at the UN.
He called it a ''serious and cruel'' situation.
Kaye mentioned the government's order to close, ''without any reason to do so'', a network of libraries founded by activist Gamal Eid using funds from a human rights award he won.
The US-born jurist called the closure a ''vindictive act'' and urged the Egyptian government to change its approach.
