The group is behind the 'Defend Europe' campaign to hinder NGOs involved in migrant rescue operations in the Mediterranean Sea through acts of disturbance at sea. The network has called on the prosecutor's office to immediately order the Spanish Coast Guard and the civil protection to undertake ''all necessary actions'' in collaboration with the European border control agency Frontex to block the C-Star ship, with which Generation Identity plans to weigh anchor from Catania this week to patrol the Mediterranean off the Libyan coast. Red Española de Inmigracion said that the xenophobic movement - which managed to raise the 60,000 euros necessary for the trip through a crowdfunding initiative - aims to ''attack and block migrants to bring political asylum seekers back to their countries''.
This initiative is, in the words of the NGO, ''completely illegal and against Spanish and international law'' and should be considered involved in ''a criminal organization, piracy and boarding for political ends'', in line with the Spanish Criminal Code. The complaint thus asks that the C-Star ship be intercepted in Spanish territorial waters and that it be ''prevented from carrying out crimes'', on the basis of Spanish and international law.
