(ANSAmed) - ROME - Italy has decided to send seven Canadair fire-fighting planes to help Libya extinguish blazes after rockets launched during fighting at the airport in Tripoli hit oil and gas storage facilities, Libya's interim government announced on Tuesday online. The cabinet asked for international help on Monday to extinguish the fire which started Sunday along the road connecting the airport to the capital.
At the request of the Libyan provisional government, the cabinet said in a statement, ''the Italian government and company Eni have decided to send to Libya seven fire-fighting planes with their crews to help control the blaze at oil and gas facilities along the roads leading to the airport''. The cabinet also called on all sides involved in the conflict ''to stop fighting to allow firefighters to halt the fire as soon as possible''.(ANSAmed).
