Today's report shows that current combined pledges of countries will lead to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions of 10.6% by 2030 compared to 2010. It is an improvement compared to evaluations made last year, according to which countries were destined to a growth in emissions of 13.7% by 2030 from 2010.
Analyses last year showed that emissions were expected to continue to grow after 2030. The report this year instead showed that, while emissions won't grow anymore after 2030, they are not yet showing the trend leading to a quick decrease in growth that science considers necessary this decade. The increase of decarbonization pledges of single countries (Ndc, Nationally determined contributions) will be one of the central themes of the next UN climate conference, the Cop27 of Sharm el-Sheik scheduled in Egypt on November 6-18.
