The international anti-ISIS coalition said in a statement that it hit a mosque in the area of Susa, but said those who died in the airstrike were Islamic State fighters.
The statement did not report any civilian deaths.
It said the mosque was targeted because various jihadist militants were gathered there.
Local sources said the airstrike on the Uthman mosque in Susa took place during Friday prayers and that there were "dozens of civilians" killed.
It said the bodies of those killed are still trapped in the rubble of the mosque and surrounding buildings.
