(ANSAmed) - ATHENS, JANUARY 14 - Greek doctors working for
the country's biggest healthcare provider on Tuesday said that
they are extending an ongoing strike until January 24 in demand
that the government withdraw a bill for the overhaul of the
National Healthcare System (ESY).
The union representing doctors with the National Organization for Healthcare Provision (EOPYY) are protesting a decision by the Health Ministry that, among other changes, prohibits doctors on the state's payroll from conducting private consultations and operating private clinics. They also argue that their new pay structure will see them earning significantly less than doctors with ESY.
The strike, which began before the Christmas holidays, has created significant delays for patients insured with EOPYY, as daily Kathimerini online notes.(ANSAmed).
