(ANSAmed) - TUNIS - Thousand of people commemorated on Tuesday night eight soldiers killed on Mount Chaambi by Islamic militants.
Demonstrators gathered in small groups in front of the defence ministry building, at the Kasba, many carrying candles and national flags. A great number of youths and women participated, many could not hold back tears.
When the square was full, demonstrators recited a fatiha, a prayer to commemorate the murdered soldiers. Human rights advocate and lawyer Leila Ben Debba addressed the crowd and then a minute of silence was observed, before the national anthem was sung by participants. But once demonstrators finished singing, a number of people started chanting slogans against Islamic party Ennahda and its leader Rached Gannouchi, slammed as an 'assassin'.
In several parts of the Kasba's great square demonstrators had lit up candles and recited prayers. Security in the area was tight and the crowd began walking towards Bardo square, where the Constituent Assembly is based and where a sit-in by government opponents has been ongoing for days.(ANSAmed).
