(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, OCTOBER 3 - The beach "Corniche" in
Mahdia was officially declared the first ecological beach in
Tunisia. The announcement was given on European Cooperation Day
celebrated in Mahdia, as part of the project MED Dé.Co.U.Plages
of the Cross-border cooperation program Italy-Tunisia 2014-2020,
cofounded by the European Union. MED Dé.Co.U.Plages, started in
2020 will last until 2023, said the project's coordinator,
adding that the beach of Mahdia was chosen among 162 competing
for the title of "ecological beach". The project confronts the
challenge of the passage to a circular economy in coastal and
insular areas as part of cross-border cooperation, defining and
experimenting targeted models and practices aimed at mapping and
monitoring seagrass and plastic waste, offering at the same time
tangible "circular" solutions for their correct management,
reduction, reuse and recycling at a local level. MED
Dé.Co.U.Plages is a project with the participation of
institutions, associations and Italian and Tunisian companies.
The partnership groups 14 organizations including the main and
associated partners.
The event that took place in Mahdia called "a Mediterranean
of peace and cooperation", for European Cooperation Day included
various activities, such as a visit to the remains of the city,
a campaign to clean the seabed and laboratories on an
"ecological brand", a theater performance, choreographies, a
photo exhibit and a bicycle tour for young riders under the
slogan "Bike for Peace".(ANSAmed). (ANSA).
