Mazara del Vallo, capital of the international blue economy

40 foreign countries at Blue Sea Land, open dialogue with Libya

21 October, 12:54

PALERMO - The 8th edition of the blue economy conference Blue Sea Land concluded on Sunday evening with important results.
The conference takes place in Mazara del Vallo and is organised by the Fishing and Blue Growth District, with the collaboration of three Italian ministries as well as the Region of Sicily and the City of Mazara del Vallo.
The first significant result of the conference was the opening of a new channel for dialogue with the Libyan government, through a series of meetings with Libyan Agriculture and Fishing Minister Abdelbast Ghanimi and his delegation, and with Libyan Foreign Undersecretary Mamhud Eltellisi, accompanied by Libyan Ambassador to Italy Omar Tarhuni.
Marcello Fondi, Italy deputy commissioner for Expo 2020 Dubai, was also present at the conference.
He unveiled some details of the Italy pavilion and also nominated Blue Sea Land to participate at Expo as part of the Region of Sicily's presence at the event.
Results were also achieved in terms of agreements with the government delegations of Ghana and the Ivory Coast, while Mozambique initiated its first contacts to build future relations.
Nino Carlino, president of the Sicilian Fishing District, said this year's conference hosted 40 foreign delegations.
"We had the pleasure and honour of having with us ministers, deputy ministers, undersecretaries, and some eight ambassadors," Carlino said.
"The Italian government supported our event, which aims to secure international cooperation agreements on behalf of the Blue Economy, thanks to the presence of Foreign Undersecretary Manlio Di Stefano and Agriculture and Fishing Policy Undersecretary Giuseppe L'Abbate," Carlino said.
"In addition there were 51 B2B meetings, thanks also to the valuable collaboration of the Italian Trade Agency," he said.
