(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, JUNE 16 - Documents concerning the
conventions and agreements in the energy sector forged in
Tunisia from 1960 until today, in particular 23 permits and 53
concessions for oil drilling, were signed over the past 46 years
in the North African country and published on a dedicated
website by the Tunisian agency for oil activities.
Experts, investors and journalists have the possibility of accessing data concerning the energy sector in Tunisia, including data on production, consumption, exports, imports and the distribution of oil products. Additional information concerns companies operating in the energy sector, the volume of investments, the advancement on work to search and exploit reserves.
The Tunisian minister for energy and mining, Mongi Marzouk, said the initiative represents a "step forward in the framework of a global strategy for a good management of the sector", marked by an approach dictated by criteria of openness, transparency and good governance that are part of reforms started by the minister.
The Tunisian hydrocarbon sector has often been criticized on the domestic front for the lack of transparency. With this move, the energy minister reportedly decided to adhere by the principle of open data by making data available in a complete way, also to implement principles that are part of the 2014 Constitution.
