RABAT - The Medfilm Festival in Morocco will showcase the lifelong soundtrack of 'Ennio' Morricone, told by director Giuseppe Tornatore, and the Italian devotion seen through the lens of Gianfranco Pannone in 'Lascia stare I santi' (Leave the saints alone). Calabria will be described by Jonas Carpignano with 'A Chiara' and the fragile prison community by 'Ariaferma', the movie directed by Leonardo Di Costanzo with Silvio Orlando and Toni Servillo. The film festival will be held on September 22-25 at Esav, the École Supérieure des Arts Visuels, in Marrakech and then on September 29-October 2 at the cinema Renaissance in Rabat, contributing to promote today's Italian cinema.
The MedFilm Festival features many events in Morocco, opening a window on new trends of Mediterranean films. "Promoting great Italian and Mediterranean cinema, we want to open a window of opportunities for the Moroccan public and professionals", explained Italy's Ambassador Armando Barucco. "Thanks to a century-old film industry, Italy wants to be on the frontlines of the education of new Moroccan filmmakers". The events of what is in effect a mini Mediterranean film festival are organized in cooperation with the Italian embassy in Rabat and the Italian cultural institute, the association Methexis, the Italian NGO of MedFilm, the Superior school of visual arts of Marrakech and the foundation Hiba, the Moroccan association for the development of the arts.
On September 22, Ambassador Barucco will attend the first screening in Marrakech, at Esav. He said: "The MedFilm Festival is the only event specialized in the promotion of Mediterranean and European cinema, as a means to recognize and valorize diversity and culture and a driving force for the development of society".
