ROME - The first edition of the Mediterraneo Festival is scheduled in Bisceglie from 24 November to 12 December under the artistic direction of Carlo Bruni.
The fall festival is being organised by the Linea d'Onda Association, and will offer 27 events spanning music, theater, discussions and workshops.
The programme is divided into four sections and includes many artists from the Puglia region, where Bisceglie is located, as well as renowned national and international guests.
The festival aims to reconnect at the crossroads with the historic Popoli del Mediterraneo Festival (Peoples of the Mediterranean), which for years has hosted great names in world music.
The 'Harmonious Solutions' section spans the many languages ;;of the Mediterranean and includes: a concert by the group made up of Peppe Servillo, Javier Girotto, Fabrizio Bosso, Rita Marcotulli, Furio Di Castri and Mattia Barbieri, with a project on Domenico Modugno (9 December); the Franco-Moroccan Bab L'Bluz (8 December); the Sicilian-African Sade Mangiaracina (3 December); the Puglian Vince Abbracciante (5 December); the duo of Justin Adams and Mauro Durante, who just released their album Still Moving (28 November); Antonio Castrignanò with Enzo Avitabile (10 December) and Miraggio, a special event created for the festival by Lucidiscena; and Eleina D and Kuziba on the walls of the Svevo Angioino Castle in Bisceglie (11 December).
The 'Voices from Inside' section aims to deepen the relationship between art and spirituality, with four events in as many city churches: Albanian cellist Redi Hasa and the show on Mediterranean hermits by Kuziba (24 November); the music of Calixtinus (1 December); and the festive sounds of Bandadriatica (7 December).
The 'Rights in Gender' section is a female reflection on issues and problems of this area of ;;the world, created in collaboration with the Circolo dei Lettere and the Vecchie Segherie Mastrototaro, and includes: Michela Marzano (10 December), Antonella De Biasi, a scholar of Kurdish issues and author of the beautiful book on Zehra Dogan (December 3); and Faraualla, stars of a special event on 25 November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The 'Theatres of the Border' section includes an event on the landing of the Albanians in Brindisi in 1991, discussed by the mayor at the time, Pino Marchionna (27 November); a diptych on the myths of Heracles the invisible and Medea on the street by the Borgia Theater (4 and 12 December); the tale "Don't Be Afraid" by Luigi D'Elia, accompanied on the accordion by Claudio Prima (27 November); a focus on the meaning of places with the writer Maurizio Fiorino and the anthropologist Vito Teti (4 December); and a focus on refugees with Carlotta Sami, UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) spokesperson for Southern Europe (11 December).
