Di Bari's wife was among 16 people placed under investigation by Foggia prosecutors. Five people have been arrested in the probe.

Three of them have been placed under house arrest, and the other two taken to jail. The woman, 55-year-old Rosalba Livrerio Bisceglia, is a controlling partner in a family-run farm based at Foggia. It is one of the 10 firms under investigation.

Two foreign citizens, one from Senegal and the other from Gambia, were jailed while three others were placed under house arrest . The other 11 people under investigation, including the wife of prefect Di Bari, were ordered to report to authorities.

The investigation focused on the period between July and October 2020 and included 10 farms connected to some of those under investigation.

The charges against her and all those involved in the case include illegal intermediation and labor exploitation.

Investigators said many foreign farm laborers from Africa were exploited in the countryside of the Capitanata area near Foggia.
