(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, JANUARY 30 - US Secretary of State
Antony Blinken, who is in Cairo on Monday, urged Israelis and
Palestinians to remain "calm" and favour a "de-escalation" of
the conflict in the Middle East.
"The latest developments are sad and we are working to contain them and reach a truce" taking "into consideration the interests of all sides and the stability of the region", said for his part Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry at a joint press conference in Cairo with Blinken.
Both Egypt and the United States believe in a "two-State solution" for the Israeli-Palestinian issue, stressed the US Secretary of State. He said there is no doubt that "this moment is critical" for the entire world with terrible attacks over the past few days and an increase of tension and violence over the past few months. Blinken went on to say that the United States has condemned the terrorist operation and loss of human lives, adding that this message will be highlighted and all sides urged to de-escalate tension.(ANSAmed).
