According to the Guernica 37 international justice chambers, which is based in London and has offices in Spain and the United States, Makhlouf is suspected of currently being in the UAE although he has been targeted by US sanctions in 2008 and European Union sanctions since 2011.
The platform of human rights lawyers said Makhlouf has been considered for years as an accomplice of crimes attributed to the Syrian regime to crack down on protests that began in 2011.
The organization asked the UAE to honor its obligation to respect international law and not allow for its territory to be used as safe shelter by those who are accused of ''the most shocking crimes we know''.(ANSAmed).
