Italy's annual inflation rate climbed to 2% in August, the highest level since it was at 2.2% in January 2013, ISTAT said on Wednesday.
The inflation rate was up from 1.9% in July, although the definitive figure for August was actually slightly lower than the national statistics agency's flash estimate of 2.1%.
ISTAT said its consumer-price index was up 0.4% in August in month-on-month terms.
It said the increase in inflation was driven by higher energy prices.
