Premier Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday
she would like her party to get an important post like the
economy commissioner on the next European Commission.
"I'd like to pull off one of the most important briefs like that
on the economy, not weakened as happened last time, but full, or
competition, the internal market, cohesion, there are several
significant ones, I think even the brief on the green deal,
something which I think we can say has not worked," she told a
conference organised by conservative daily La Verità in Milan.
"We have to correct our aim on green issues," she said,
explaining that Italy is aiming for a brief "that will help us
to better defend Italian interests, even though we know that
commissioners do not work for their nations".
